Nicole Maria Dance
Nicole Maria is a multi-award-winning belly dancer based out of Oakland, California. She has been studying, teaching, and performing contemporary and traditional forms of Middle Eastern dance for over a decade. Most recently she was a featured soloist in the prestigious 2019 San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, representing Egyptian Raqs Sharqi.
Nicole teaches and performs as a solo dancer and in several dance companies throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. She is currently co-director, choreographer, and solo dancer of Asheq Collective (Group Champions - 2019 Belly Dancer of the Year Competition),
Shahrzad Dance Company (Persian dance), and Tsiftitelli Delights (Contemporary Balkan Fusion with Elizabeth Strong & Shanti Bardot). She has performed and studied with some of the biggest names in the belly dance world including Dina, Mohamed Shahin, Tito Seif, Rachel Brice, Colleena Shakti, Mira Betz, Zoe Jakes, Kami Liddle, Jill Parker. Nicole currently performs five nights a week throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
Nicole received her degree in Cultural Anthropology and Archaeology with a minor in World Music from San Francisco State University. She has always been interested in the intersection of culture and dance and the study of dance in its sociocultural context. As a performer, she is interested in portraying both contemporary and traditional forms of Middle Eastern and Persian dance as well as dances from Turkey, Greece, and the Balkans.
